  19. San Diego, CA, Pages Software today announced it has begun
  20. world-wide shipment of Pages 1.5, a significant upgrade from
  21. Pages by Pages(tm) 1.0, the company's premiere ObjectBased(tm)
  22. word-processing application, which shipped last March.  Pages
  23. 1.5 is an ObjectBased word-processing solution that can range
  24. from a single-user personal word-processor, to a complete
  25. enterprise-wide document environment.

  27. The new release of Pages contains many new features requested by
  28. our customers, as well as modifications to the user interface to
  29. make Pages easier to use.

  31. Larry Spelhaug, President and CEO of Pages Software Inc says this
  32. of the new release, "We are listening to customer feedback and are
  33. responding by improving our product in ways that will make our
  34. users more productive." The results have come quickly and are
  35. quite significant.

  37. Pages 1.5 includes enhancements to the user interface that make
  38. the product easier to use, and new features such as a Ruler,
  39. SpeedBar, Keybindings, Tabs, the ability to specify font size and
  40. leading, Mail Merge, enhanced word-processor filters, and an
  41. additional Design Model.

  43. "A revision of this significance would not have been possible to
  44. do in a six-month time-frame without the underlying architecture
  45. and tools the NEXTSTEP environment provides for us," states Jim
  46. Hamerly, Pages' Vice President of Engineering. "While the first
  47. rev of Pages didn't come out as quickly as we'd have liked,"
  48. continues Hamerly, "time taken in properly architecting the
  49. product, along with the tools available in the NEXTSTEP
  50. environment, allowed us to quickly make significant improvements
  51. in our new release." Pages is one of the few applications
  52. available today that was designed entirely with objects from
  53. it's inception.

  55. Pages 1.5 is offered as a free upgrade to Pages 1.0 retail
  56. customers, and will be sold for $49.00 as an educational upgrade.
  57. The product lists at $595.00 for new customers, with an
  58. educational discount to $195.00. Site license discounts are
  59. available.

  61. Pages is sold through authorized resellers worldwide, as well as

  64. available for Motorola-, Intel- and HP PA-RISC-based versions of
  65. NEXTSTEP. System requirements are NEXTSTEP 3.1 or higher with a
  66. minimum of 20MB of hard disk space and 16MB of RAM. For NEXTSTEP
  67. Intel, 1024 x 768 or greater resolution is recommended, with a
  68. minimum of 20MB of hard disk space and 16MB of RAM. The product is
  69. available initially on magnetic media, and will soon be released
  70. on CD-ROM .
